A Drama Composed of Real Voicemails
Call Me When You Get This, Love You.
Over the course of four years, our creator Alexander saved all their voicemails knowing one day there would be someway to tell a story. This piece is the story that came from moving around voicemails like puzzle pieces. The voicemails themselves are entirely real and completely intact, aside from the redaction of phone numbers and personal information. The only real editing is the order in which the voicemails are presented. These range from voicemails received in the Fall of 2013 to only two weeks ago (from original release).

These voicemails were pulled from the voicemail box of a Louisiana Resident where the following laws apply:
Summary of statute(s): Louisiana’s Electronic Surveillance Act bars the recording, interception, use or disclosure of any oral or telephonic communication by means of any mechanical or electronic device without the consent of at least one party to the conversation. The state also prohibits the recording and disclosure of images intercepted in violation of its video voyeurism laws. Violators can face both civil and criminal penalties.
Disclosing recordings: Louisiana bars the transfer by e-mail, the Internet or a commercial online service any photo or film images obtained in violation of the state’s video voyeurism law. La. Rev. Stat. Ann. § 14:283(A). The state also bars the disclosure or use of the contents of any oral or electronic communication either knowing or having reason to know it was intercepted in violation of the state’s eavesdropping laws. La. Rev. Stat. Ann. § 15:1303.
Louisiana's Voyeurism Law only applies to images and videotape, and consent to be recorded is given by both parties in the leaving of the voicemail and the receiver of the voicemail. The release of the voicemail in an artistic work which receives no direct payment is not in violation of the laws surrounding the recording of conversations via phone or in public.
